We provide diapers to hundreds of babies in Collier County but our program also impacts over 1200 family members because of the caring community the volunteers create and also the lessening of financial stress. The families tell us they use the money saved on diapers for other necessities such as food.
Baby Basics hosts just one event at VCC each year, which is Dining for Diapers, a dinner for as many as 160 people. Other organizations within Vanderbilt also host events and these events donate funds to support Baby Basics. Two Vanderbilt residents hosted the second annual Mahjongg Tournament which raised $2,141.00 for the 300+ babies in our program. The Aristohats, a Red Hat Ladies group, hosts a fall golf tournament which benefits Baby Basics. Other community events have been our Annual Fashion Shows and the Biking/Walking Challenges. Many VCC members and staff are the leaders as well as supporters that make our events successful.
Baby Basics of Collier County
Baby Basics of Collier County has been selected by Kelly Phillips, the "tax girl" who is a feature writer for Forbes Magazine as one of the "12 Days of Giving". Kelly selects 12 charities nationwide to be highlighted and featured each of the 12 days prior to Christmas. Baby Basics was selected for the first day. The article also contains a picture of three of our Baby Basics Habitat for Humanity volunteers; Myra Cristall, Judy Smith and Betty Gilroy. The site manager for Habitat is Ally Tate.
Baby Basics is honored to be selected for such a prestigious award. We are grateful to all the volunteers and supporters in Vanderbilt who help us to enhance and maintain the Baby Basics program.
